What's in My Travel Backpack

What's in My Travel Backpack

By the time this post will be up on the blog, I will be on my way to another impromptu trip to Dalhousie. Yes! We were planning to go to Rajasthan since long but sudden turn of events and mountains here I come again. So while I thought about what all to pack in my backpack, this post has been long due and here is a list of what all you can find in my travel bag.

What's in My Travel Backpack

First things first, before planning anything I check the weather of the place I am visiting, like if I was going to Rajasthan as planned earlier my attire choices would have been different and for Dalhousie, I am packing a totally different set. This one is a no-brainer but a really helpful tip. Recently, I have travelled quite a lot, thanks to the company I am currently in so I have developed few habits over the period which help me tremendously to carry my bag without any help. I am listing below all the helpful tips and essentials which are required but are easily missed.

Habit of Not-Overpacking-
If you are the one who carries his/her own stuff then my friend, this is another huge task ahead of you. Though during my course of life so far, I have shifted to quite many a places and I myself have carried my bags mostly from one place to another but those were for the shifting purposes and not travelling for leisure. While travelling I will never want to drag my suitcases on the go so I keep my packing to something which I can carry myself. Have heard somewhere for travelling, analyse what all you kept for taking, take away twice in the review . This way you will avoid over-packing and will only take the essentials plus you will be reminded of the things you are missing.

Comfortable Backpack or Suitcase/Trolley-
A carry-on or a backpack is a perfect choice as it's easy to carry and convenient to shift plus has a space divided works as an organiser in itself. If you are out going with the family, even then it's a good habit to have a backpack each then to have one or two members dragging all the luggage in a trolley or a suitcase. Trolleys and suitcases are good options when you are on a road trip in your own car or traveller.

Hygiene Kit-
This is another important aspect of packing which one must keep in mind while packing, consisting of 1). Tooth-Brush, 2). Paste, 3). Handwash, 4). Hand- Sanitizer, 5). Wet-Wipes, 6).Tissue Paper, 7). Soap/Shampoo Sachet, 8) Qtips, 9).Shaving Kit(For men)/ Tampons or Pads (for women), 10). Pocket Deo

It's not always that I stay in a luxurious hotel or travel by the modest transport so to have something to clean myself up with at my disposal is always a safe and good option.

Camera Kit-
So far I have been doing with my mobile phone, so that's mostly it in my camera kit but someday there will be a nice camera to fill in this space. 😉

Medical Kit-
On my Trip to Patnitop , it so happened that even though I had mostly all required medicines with me but fever was not accounted for and my friend got high fever by the night as it was snowing. It was by mere luck that the hotel staff arranged for a fever medicine by late night as all roads were blocked, there was no current in the whole area and we were stuck in the hotel for next 2 days. It's a good idea to have 1). Your Prescribed medication, 2). Fever Meds 3). Headache 4). Stomach Meds 5). Bandages in your kit at all times.

Power Bank-
This I have mentioned in 10 Travelling Essentials , its always good to have a power backup by your side to charge up the camera or a phone on the go. Two days with total black-out in Patnitop has made me realise the importance of charged phone camera at all times so that I didn't miss out to capture any beautiful memory.

Shoes to Walk In Comfortably-
I have feet so soft that it can pain with or without any work, hence I gotta be extra conscious about my shoe choices on the go as I need a pair which looks good and doesn't hurt my toes. My go to choice for these trips have been my pink Puma shoes. Go for something which you feel comfortable to walk in.

Accessories-
I love to carry my accessories as for me they put together the look. For the outfit I keep, I put on few neckpieces, a watch, scarves and shades if I plan to wear my contacts on any occasion. I like to keep these minimal as they add on to quite a lot of weight to the luggage and my whole aim always is to carry less. So I choose amongst my set and pick the versatile ones to go on mostly all the travels.

Versatile Clothes-
I try to keep versatile clothing items in my backpack which can be paired with each other and worn individually so that the outfit doesn't get monotonous. If I am visiting a cold place, I would stuff my bag with jackets and coat, usually they take a whole lot space in my luggage and with rest I will have to compromise. My solution to this is finding high colored thin layers to wear underneath for protection and to wear the cosy ones outside. For what I worry the least if my outfit is getting repetitive throughout the images because wherever I go, I visit mostly 2-3 picturesque spots and I just can't change outfit at every location because I am there to soak in the majestic nature and less work.

My Travel Makeup Kit-
This again is the key selection for the girls out there, I usually prefer to keep my makeup simple and effective for the photographs while I travel. I never wish to get all dolled up for the trek on the mountains, just few touch ups here and there so it's very pointless to carry tons of makeup and fill my luggage with it. My kit has a concealer, tinted blusher(which I hardly use), kajal, eye-liner, and lip tint. Plus I need to have moisturiser and Vaseline/Boroplus to keep my hands and feet moist. For a time like this trip, I will be there to enjoy Christmas events so might throw in a simple quadrant eyeshadow palette which has shades to match with every occasion, the beautiful gold and 1-2 brushes. I wear glasses throughout most of my trip but will pop my contacts and liquid just in case.

Handbag-
You might have noticed till now that though I am a bag lover but usually there is always that one bag which I carry to every place with myself. Find yourself that one handy bag which holds all your cards, cash and required documents in place and can be fitted through any space. I have this green sling bag which is plain and chic, easy to carry spacious bag which I carry everywhere as for me to change bags and cards every second will only lead to miss placing few of the items in the process. So if I have to take something huge, I will just pop my sling right into it.

Diary and Pen-
Though I carry a phone which has all my notes and memoirs in place but I still like to keep a diary and a pen handy. Many of my trip plans have been made, thought after, written and later executed from that diary. So by the time I think of some other better alternative than this, I will continue to carry this small packet friendly diary with me.

Papers or Carry Bags-
I always carry a set which has newspapers and spare 2 bags just in case to keep any extra or wet items back into the bag and to save other items from getting wet by it. This helps in dividing sections of clean and dirty within the bag.

Never short on Necessities-
Socks, undergarments are the basics. Compromising on clothing a bit but never compromise on keeping clean sets on the go. You might not get time every minute to clean your undergarments or even if you do they might not dry in time so always keep a pair extra from what you have thought would suffice.

Water Bottle-
This is mostly one thing which I never carry from home and buy mid-way. I don't rely on tap water in most places so mostly buy a filter water bottle on the way, once done will crush and throw it into the dustbin(important point to avoid re-usage of plastic bottles without proper recycling).

What's in My Travel Backpack

So, that's all what I keep in my travel bag in case you find it helpful share the idea around and comment below what all items you travel with or your queries if there are any.

Fashion Accessories To Invest In

Women's Accessories To Invest In

Here is a news, recently I have been binge watching 2 Broke Girls. It all started with comedy but now the love affair has grown far too strong, not only with Kat Dennings character as Max but also with the apartment for home decor inspiration and the outfits she wears. One thing which stood out the most in her style is that how she takes those basic check shirts plus denim combo and gives it the accessory twist. This takes her outfit from basic to fashion worthy. I have been such an admirer of statement accessories myself that have to impart some info on which statement accessories are the must have to take your attire from drab to fab.
Accessories to Invest In

For whatever planning of clothes we do, we just have to admit that not even the whole huge trunk full of clothes would suffice to alter each day and wear something different for every occasion. We have trained our minds to run towards fast fashion in this age of Instagram and always be buying more clothes but that will only burn a hole in your pockets by the end of the month and urge to buy more with next paycheck….that's not fun. Why not take a different approach of working on the outfits you already have and fuse it with the fun accessories. I am not just talking about shoes and bags, I am talking about big whole shebang. Here are some ideas at the top of my head and as I always said don't be limited by choices I give, search more and find your style, play with fashion in quest to find it.

Silver and gold Hand-Downs-
Some of the best pieces which I own are the hand-downs from my mother and grand-mothers, they are these huge paajeb(chunky anklet), the ear-cuffs and chunky bracelets with meena work. The value of these accessories only increase with age and so does the look. These sure are not the everyday wear but occasionally you can flaunt those family heirlooms and make a huge statement with a simple attire. On the plus side you need not to invest a dime for them yet you are at a huge gain in looks and value.

Headgear/Hat-
Invest in a good quality headgear, these accessories are statement makers. Your look turns from plain to chic in a single second. Don't be afraid to play with the vibe, you are dressed to impress and if not you are dressed for yourself. I didn't understood the importance of this earlier in my life and that would be my regret as I had some great Beret hand-downs from my great Grand-Father or maybe my head was too small for it, who would know now as I committed the crime of giving them away long time back and here I write about it. Invest in a Men's Biker Cap(Black is versatile), Fedora, a Beret or Satin Headband, they compliment mostly all attires.

Statement Necklace-
I cannot emphasise this enough that what wonders does a statement neck piece does to a garment. Just tuck in the chunky necklace under your collar and your look is upscaled by 1000 points. Invest in some durable chunky neck jewellery than buying trinkets. I own quite a few and they are versatile fashion pieces which work well with both traditional and western attires. They even suit the suit😉 or any business ensemble, just find a classy set. For neckpieces I would rather suggest to hunt the local markets if you are from metropolitans, as I have found best statement makers from Sarojini Nagar in Delhi but here are some online options and you gotta take care of these babies if you want them to last long😍
Belts-
Rather than owning a cheaper material which can be worn only a month or so, invest in some good quality belts. They are such a look enhancer from party to boho, from fancy to punk, you can opt for any and it will serve the purpose just right. A plain shift dress can be altered in so many ways, with a sleek belt, you are ready for meeting, with huge bulky belt, you are ready to hit the road and with embellishments you are ready to rock the party. Just find your pick.

Suspenders-
Invest in suspenders and take your fashion game to a whole new level girls and boys, this one is unisex and functional. Works replacing the belt and ads so much to the look. Plain denim and white shirt look gets a new life just by adding suspenders. This is really a good investment without complicating your head with tons to choose from.

Statement Hand Accessories-
Buy that one huge ring preferably crystal studded or the lacy bracelets, they make huge statement pieces. They complete the look, giving it the edge you need from grunge to boho chic...pick your piece.  So far I own this one ring which is in gold but works great with almost all the pieces I set it with. This is one investment I need to indulge in ASAP as I do fall short on this one.

Hand Fashion Accessories to Invest In

Goggles-
I am a girl with power, I hardly can see clearly without my glasses on so this one is for the girls like me and not necessarily. I am stuck with these goggles forever so why not make the most of it, try to choose the frame which makes more statement than your clothes do. I have 2 sets, one sleek and simple for my traditional wears(when I hate to put on lenses which is always) and other is a bold oval shaped for more outdoorsy look. Invest in some good quality and if you are amongst those lucky one who just wear goggles for fun, go nuts with your choices but choose the shape which suits your face.

Fashion Accessories to Invest In

You need not to buy a whole bunch of all these accessories to start from, you just need the right piece to start from. Put in some thought before buying, analyse the functionality of the jewellery and then invest in some quality products. Metallic jewellery like oxidised silver and crystals stay for the longest period if taken care of nicely. Plus these accessories make the great gifts, I  just thought of including this info as it's the holiday season and we all are planning for the gifts.

So, these are my fashion accessory picks, what do yo like to accessorise with? Write down in the comments below and if you like it share the idea around.

Monochrome Outfit Ideas|Rock that One-Color

So this just popped up while I was wearing all blue outfit and thought why not make the most of it. How exactly does a Monochrome Fashion works? Is it trendy enough to be incorporated in outfit ideas, does it make a statement? and I will be covering up all that jazz with this post. There have been times when my closet was mostly one color, at times the color has been orange or others it has been pink. While monochrome can create monotony very easily but not if you play it right.

Monochromatic fashion outfit ideas

Fashion to me is all about finding your personal style without biding by the rules, some may hate what you love so don't be afraid to play with what you like and make them love it. Monochromatic fashion has made a mark time and again, here are some tips and tricks how to incorporate this trend in your style-

Definite Monochrome-
Play with one color in your outfit combination, no it's not boring if you plan it right. Wear the top and bottom of same color palette, create a vibe. I love to play with black on black or blue on blue with my denims usually and it has always worked in great looks for me. One thing to keep in mind, don't always just play with single solid colors(that's not harmful though) in your outfit as that's just lazy and common but incorporate the various hues and tints of it.

Like if you are going for White, then your options are white to silver grey or eggshell white to lightest pink. Plan the outfit between these shades and not just plan white from top to bottom all the time.

Add Texture-
If you have ever thought that monochromes are boring then you weren't introduced to textures. Play with texture of fabrics to create an awesome look. Layer Denim with Satin or Grey with Silver sequins, textures create contrast and break the monotony. Combo of tough and soft can create wonders on your skin plus imprint positive feedback on your audience's minds.

Break the Monotony-
Sometimes all you have to do to bring out the best of monochromes is to add a pop of color in accessories. A chunky belt or a head band, even the shoes matter when all your colors are one direction. This juxtaposition of accessories helps eradicating the idea of one color visual.

Mix in some Prints or Embroidery-
Again this one has to do with the visuals or eye concentrating on one solid color, just like textures, prints and embroidery helps to bring the contrast in the solid color family. Mix in the prints or embroidery in same color or contrast creating visually effective pair to be worn.

Play with Shapes-
Play with various shapes of the garments, combine the structured with flowy attire. This way you will break the monotony of solid colors. It's important to break the attention of eye than just focusing on one thing, give a little edge to your style by mixing structures.

Own your Choice-
Last but not the least, whatever style you pick-wear it with Confidence. You might be hell a wrong for others while making that choice but you might as well influence them with the confidence you carry.

Go for SUSTAINABLE Fashion without compromising on style

Since I started writing blog, I began to organise more than I used to, think more than I used to, put efforts more than I used to and today when I sat back to retrospect my lifestyle it was surely filled with thoughts to have a pretty house of my own, a decent wardrobe but on a closer look I wanted to be more responsible as a human of my choices now. I see new things coming every other second on my Instagram feed from home décor to clothes but this made me think, how much bad it is doing to us as individuals or nature as a whole.

Ways for sustainable fashion without compromising style
Organic Fabric-Khadi (is 1 option)

With this age of digitalisation, we are never satisfied with what we have and what is the sustainability of anything we own?

With fast fashion, sales activated every other second, new updates, how far we are from demolishing our mental self and planet earth as fast fashion comes at a higher price than what meets the eyes. From cosmetics to apparels, we are surrounded with things changing, updating, reforming every second and every thing shines on the outer skin but we fail to see the hard work of daily wagers who work harder each day to meet the demands at the lowest wages, even risking their lives at some places. We see the changing feeds and feel a little less of our lifestyle at times and that shouldn't, how life has to be.

We Indians are blessed with culture so rich that it provides us so much of variety with artists, attires, craftsmanship, architecture and much more. We are from the place which practiced yoga and meditation in the ancient times, we do sacred rituals to cleanse our aura which now thanks to digitalisation and it's benefits has left mark all around the globe. People all around the globe come to visit our culture, stay here, meditate, refresh, rejuvenate and go back to their countries with heart felt warmth.

Sustainable Fashion is not that hard, go for Vintage, Upcycle or organic fabrics

And with this post on #sustainable fashion, I wish to make a point to get closer to our roots to feel satisfied at most points. Either ways most of us are bred to maximise the use of everything in our lives(being from middle class family, I know it😉) so why should we start splurging on the things which are made to have shorter shelf life. Indulge in some of the sustainable/slow fashion for achieving something greater than just style. I am not suggesting something which we can't practice as we ain't saints devoid of worldly values or not all of us are rich to afford some of the bigger sustainable fashion brands but only having little trick here and there up our sleeves to extend the longevity of the fashion we choose.

Vintage-
Some old time charm exists in those age old attires and their embellishments or embroidery. There is nothing more pretty and fulfilling for me than the buried treasure of my mother's closet and which I leisurely hunt from time to time, sometime to wear a saree as it is, to pair the cardigans(some of which even belonged to my grandmother) she owns for winter season with my denims, sometimes to upcycle it. Trust me, old fabric is like gold value of which only increases with time. If fabric is in good condition, which always is (it will last for my lifetime I guess), I will cut and get it stitched to my preferences. Choose vintage over the new buys and pair it with yours regulars, you will surely make some heads turn.

Indian Prints and Crafts-
To my knowledge or what I have sensed, Indian crafts like Block Printing, Chicken-Kari, hand Embroidery work so far have less adverse effects on people's lifestyle as they are done on demand, mostly on cotton fabrics and by the people in civil conditions. Most pieces by themselves make a huge statement and they are really long lasting. Opt for more such apparels, this will benefit you, the environment, the craftsman and it will be MADE IN INDIA just like me and you. 😊

Research and Pick-
Before going right into the buy, learn about the brand more. There are some of the Indian brands which make cool fabrics and whole wide range for you to pick from. If you well are reading this post, read about the brand you buy from. It's not always the western brands which provide you with new styles, find your style in the regional drapes at khadi stores in India or various brands which are building more ethically. Even some of the western mass producers are making effort towards the greater good.

Second Hand-
What has been buried in your closet for probably a decade now, you are never gonna wear it. Give it to someone before it perishes in your closet itself, they will have a second pair to wear and be grateful about it. This is not per say the eco-friendly way but this plays with the psychology as another person will have one more pair to wear and one less to buy.

Cloth Swap-
This again is a known phenomenon for buying less and having more choices to wear from. Swap clothes amongst yourselves to broaden the options. I have worn many outfits from my friend's closet and they have mine (obviously if it fits or might need a little tailoring), I am not ashamed of it. we all spend fortunes on a single piece, why not let it be utilized to it's maximum potential.

Organic Fabric-
My love for khadi is immense and don't go by it's name, that darn fabric is costly but so breathable. Know your fabric or what you are buying. Choose natural fibre woven fabrics, if you are the one who can not make out the difference between fabrics then check for cotton (which is not heavily chemically treated), silk, rayon, linen, modal, wool(not that synthetic ones) etc. If you don't know it by feel, check the care label. This works well in your body's favour too. Organic fabrics absorb less moisture hence when you wear cotton which is not heavily treated, your body feels lighter as there is no chemical to absorb skin's water.

Upcycle-
Another way to go about sustainable fashion is to upcycle things you own, design a dress out of already existing piece to your choice, DIY a kurta out of an old dupatta, do your print on a solid colour, give it some fusion. Make it you work of art, what bad could happen...you might not like the turn out or you may. Today even a rug maker came to my door suggesting to make rugs and tapestry out of old clothes(sadly I de-cluttered all mine right before Diwali).

Handloom-
With the increased demand of fabrics, machines are ruling the garment industry way and beyond but handloom has been there since the start. This craftsmanship should be valued for decades to come. I cherish the rugs and IKAT handlooms I own.

choose sustainable or eco friendly fashion

These are some simple, cost effective yet very workable tips to opt sustainable fashion maintaining your style. I will never throw away my denims I guess but it's going to look million bucks if I team them up with chicken-kari kurtas. Amidst all those updating feeds on Instagram, we have to find our p-ea/ie-ce, maximise the use of every closet and every garment we own, to choose wisely on our next buy. Even if we make conscious decision with one attire that would be a satisfaction we can never overlook.

Share these ideas around and comment below your tricks and tips towards opting sustainable fashion in case I missed any.

Layer Fashionably For Winter

So while I was getting to write about shedding few apparel layers this winter, runway was blazing with trends to layer more. Don't get me wrong, for the one who enjoys this season hardly for two months in it's bloom here in India, I love to layer myself up, as cold and me are best of friends in mind but with body...Naha! My body can't take it. So, as far as it's in trend, let me get my coats on.

HAH! That's interesting.

Layer up with Silver this winter season, Interpreting runway trends

Here I am finding my peace in between trends of pairing two to three coats together to incorporating silver with attire and making it to my style. I don't wish to be all Joey Tribiani (where he puts on all of Chandeler's clothes for the couch revenge and if you haven't seen F.R.I.E.N.D.S., under what rock are living?), seriously this was my first thought seeing piling of coats on coat trend and truly speaking at my place here, it doesn't get this cold either. I will start melting under that pile for sure.

Studying Trends this Winter-

Incorporate Silver-
This one is more like me, dazzled silver outfits were seen on the runway. I am not ever daring to compare myself with any of the styles out there on the runway, this one was my interpretation of the trend. Incorporate some silver in your clothing this winter.

Interpreting runway trend this winter, Layer Up this Winter

Leather-
Make an statement with leather pieces as its so in this season on the runway and in every form, be it skirts, jackets, trousers, tops, you name it and its there. Make your pick and go out in style. I have yet to find my statement leather (of course Faux) piece.

Animal Prints-
On and off in the previous seasons, animal prints will never fade away in the near future. Make the bold choice with same upper and bottom if you are opting for the animal prints or go for the bolder/broader prints to make a statement.

Silk-
It's a boss fabric and like a boss, Silk ruled again and it so brings the elegance to any outfit if worn right. Make an statement with silk scarf wrapped around the head or dress or go with the printed silk outfit. Find yourself the perfect pair of silk trousers to make a bold statement or feel free in the flowy silk top, it's up to you.

Hoods & Capes-
Bigger hoodies and bolder cape silhouettes were visible on the runway. If you are worried about those chilly winter morning then girls and boys cover your head with the hoddies, no one should mind. You are on point with the latest trends.

Rustic Charm-
If you are the one who admires old school, bring out all the shades of brown etc., go with the rustic vibes. Find your style with crochet, of which I am not a fan in summer because of the layering I gotta do underneath but hello winters and I am game.

Double Coat Game-
So this was one trend, I couldn't get. Maybe, because I am Indian and it doesn't get so cold but I am planning a visit to snowland soon maybe there, this trend comes handy. Wear two coats instead of one, three instead of two, Yeah! weird but it was seen highly on the runway so I had to include it.

Back of the Tweed-
If tweed sounds very professor to you then be ready to teach some runway fashion  to others. Tweed coats made an entrance and I have been a lover of these anyways. Tweed is winter functional and for me always fantastic.

Checks-
I don't think they ever left and again I am a big fan. Bring out style and posture in the checks you own. Bolder the better(in colour or prints).

Layer more this winter and layer well, keep yourself away from cold because it's trendy.😉

Interpreting this season's runway trend

I will always suggest, to not go all crazy over the shopping and find out the piece you own which can be perfectly worked out with the trend. Be the boss (which was mostly the mantra on runway) of your choices and act smart with the dressing boosting your confidence.

Interpreting Runway Trends this Winter, layer it up

Importance of Documentation|Lists, Journals, Photgraphs, Bills etc.

There is a reason, I added lifestyle section to my blog. I am experiencing a change in the way I am living now and previously, I want this change to be continuous and not a fluke. That's why I am documenting it in my blogs. Yes! That's the importance I am talking about.

Blog is where I document my Life

We all are humans and not machines after all. Our brain can store only so much and we tend to forget most of it by the night light. Many occurrences have happened where something pops up in my head and by the minute I get finished with my work, the idea is out. This is not one of the managerial documentation post where I will be assessing the aspects of why filing is important in offices, we all know the importance of that(Things on paper are much more solid and of value than the ones in mind) but this one is more of a personal approach to it.

Pros and Cons of Documents
I have post-it with pen counter at every nook of my house so I don't have to post-pone writing anything popping in my head till the time I find a pen and paper. Call me forgetful but I think it keeps my mind and process organised. I have a list of everything important and every idea documented for me to go back and to refer to it. Document your:

1). Lists:
I make a check list from grocery to to-do list about everything at most occasions. This list keeps the items in check and in place plus I don't have to go over the hassle of reminding myself of what to buy or to keeps me from over buying the un-necessary items. Whenever I am out and about doing my business, my list is a reminder of works to be taken care of before taking the night's rest.

 2). Plans:
Documenting the plans is really important in the planning process. Be it for yourself, for any trip or for any other detail. Having a proper vision of where do you wanna go/reach in a given time period helps you work harder towards achieving that vison. The one who has travelled new places often can assure you that this list keeps you from missing out on seeing/visiting amazing places, diverging from your budget, keeping your trip in time check.

3). Journal:
I don't write journals but I like capturing moments at times. Phone is the easiest camera I have in hand, things I capture at times can be bizarre but when I go back and look it up, the memories sure are beautiful. For you it can be anything, a journal writing, photographs, souvenirs from the moments you spend...You sure can stop by to smell a rose but after a while, memory of it will only remain so why not capture the moment.

4). Bills and Payments:
This one is more organised approach towards your lifestyle so that whenever you get a sum of money in your pocket, you will know where you gotta spend first because that's a bigger responsibility to be clear off your payments, bills and debts.

5). Social Media:
With social media taking over everything in our lives, why not go one step further to actually documenting our lives and ideas with the help of it. Like an Instagram stories are a throwback to a time well spent(don't make it about the number, make it about the memories you made), announce thoughts in a Tweet or a personal share on Facebook will only help you get a clearer picture of what will be your next step (I still get Facebook notifications of somethings I shared ages ago as a serious issue and now laugh over how silly was my reaction).

If you are not the one who writes daily or keep the track of details, trust me and start it with simple steps. Write down details of the day or few snippets from here and there. You will soon start loving the process and will get a clear vision of your thoughts. Anything which makes it's presence felt remains for a longer period in memory and in activity, your commitment to it will grow stronger with days.

Why you should document your life.

It's only fair to analyse the pros and cons of something you are favouring, practising and advising so here are some:

Pros:
  • Keeps you organised
  • Clarity of VISION
  • You have an evidence for going back and referring to
  • Makes you work harder or ponder over the ideas you vision
  • Hassle Free assortment of deeds
  • You have tons of memories in hard copy to look back to and smile
Cons:
  • Once hooked, you can't return
  • If you have access to it, others might too (unlike thoughts)
  • Takes some practice to get used too
I have started with it very recently but loving the process, this is one way to keep myself organised, work hard towards achieving the goal and trust me it's not some childish practice though it can be made fun of but it helps you see things clearly and with perspective.

SHARE these ideas, COMMENT below whether you love to document your life and in what form.

My Trip to Dharamshala and McLeodganj | Places to Visit, Transport, Cafes and More

In my earlier post, I mentioned that I travelled a lot in past few months...this one is another walk down the memory lane. I travelled to Dharamshala and McLeodganj knowing nothing of it and with friends who share the same love for mountains as I do.

Trip to Dharamshala and McLeodganj-Naddi View Point

Transport:

As most of my trips so far, this one also was through public transport, we took a bus from Delhi to Dharamshala, an overnight journey and by the morning we were at Dharamshala bus stop. If you are going as a tourist, you will be taken aback as you enter Dharamshala because by the first look of it, places are far and transport during morning hour is less. Don't be dis-heartened, switch on your GPS and walk towards Dharamshala City, just few minutes away from the bus stop. There you will see hotels, lanes full of shops and accommodation.

my trip to Mcleodganj and Dharamshala

In transport we opted for bus(to reach Dharamshala), taxi (to reach McLeodganj), rented bike (to commute around town) and on foot while exploring cafes.

Funds:

For this trip thanks to my friend as it was funded mostly.

Places to Visit:

We stayed one day in Dharamshala mostly because of the heavy rainfall, then moved up to McLeodganj from there we rented a bike for 2 days and visited:
  • Bhagsunag Waterfall
  • Church
  • Tea Garden
  • HPCA Stadium
  • War Memorial
  • Naddi and Dal Lake
  • Chinmaya Tapovan
  • Karmapa Gyuto Monastery
I would suggest to make plans for Triund as well, ours was ruined due to rainfall and mostly we were bound to sit in our rooms.

Places to Eat:

Dolma Chowk in McLeodganj offers some of the best restaurants and cafes serving some of the best cuisines I have ever eaten. The 2, I am listing here are my best experience plus momos from the small shop in front of café Anonymous (I didn't like Anonymous that much) and fish fry plus bhuna chicken as street food from the same lane

Hotels and Accommodations:

We stayed in hotels, lodging is not that cheap in Dharamshala but in McLeoganj you get fair options and good deals. I am giving out the number of hotel we stayed in McLeodganj as it was nice and at considerable price with the cutest café on the ground floor(try their chocolate or banana desserts and don't try lemon-curd pie).

Plus I am attaching the visiting cards of taxi service we hired(he was a friendly guy) and cafes, make sure to try those as they serve really nice food plus Tibet Kitchen is doing good deed serving free of cost to ones in need and offers the best Tibetan food plus generous servings is another ad-on.

My Experience:

My experience of Dharamshala and McLeodganj was full of rainfall, dessert in cafes, sitting for hours at some cosy location, enjoying lemon tea at Dolma Chowk(you should try it, it's a small counter shop which only serves tea and you will see monks sitting on the seat infront sipping on their tea, that's what inspired this chai lover) and near death experience with our confidence of bike riding. This place has so much scenic beauty to offer along the roads, I would suggest you to rent a bike(if you are pro as riding on mountains is a risky business and bikes on rents are really roughly used so it would take quite a skill to safely ride along the roads, we switched from Bullet to Scooty in a jiffy after almost escaping the fall into the valley) and then from McLeodganj come downhill to Dharamshala exploring places and uphill enjoy the scenery in every nook and corner. People here are friendly to talk to, mind your business and they will mind theirs.

Even though rainfall was really taking our case but whatever we explored, I enjoyed every bit of it. I could sit at Bhagsu Falls for ages(it was a feeling that clock stopped ticking and take every ounce of the location in), Church was a serene place as the route to it builds up the expectation wild and the church doesn't disappoint, Karmapa Gyuto Monastery was also a calming experience, so was scenic beauty of the location of War Memorial and Naddi.

My trip to Dharamshala and McLeodganj- a Chai Lover

I sat by the roads for the longest time enjoying the scenery, rains, watching clouds doing all kinds of crazy things, riding along the green mountains and this place didn't disappoint me at all.

My Suggestions:

There are many hotels available near Bhagsunag in McLeodganj but I would suggest you stay near Dolma Chowk as nice joints to eat are accessible and shops are open till late. For the roads if you are not a rider full time, avoid renting a bike as roads are steeper and curves are dangerous but if you are get your hands on the bike you are comfortable with and roam the hill station. If you are on the money crunch, spend most of it exploring eating joints as they really are worth it. Plan a hike to Triund and night camp there, have heard it's an amazing experience of which I was devoid due to heavy rainfall. Check for the weather reports prior to your plans as in McLeodganj, it pours crazy (I went in July end). If you are visiting in rain or snow season, you can buy those plastic overalls you get in shops there, its cheap and if worn/handled carefully lasts long. Mine saved me through my Agra trip and is still kept folded for the next season.

My trip to Dharamshala and McLeodganj- Temple

Don't underestimate the power of mountains, rest if you are going with friends and family or solo, this place will be worth in every aspect. McLeodganj has so much to offer, don't go for the norms but go for the extraordinary as it offers that if you know where to look. Enjoy nature in it's full glory.

Trip to Lesser Known Peaceful Champawat

During all this break I took from blogging, I travelled. I travelled quite a lot, attended events, went on trip/s, visited home and much more. This post is dedicated to one such travel trip because this place and this journey etched it's mark on my memory. Champawat was not very well known to me but my cousin got married and is living nearby so after her grand wedding in my hometown, I went to attend her wedding reception. By the time I was there, plans to visit Kumaoni region was in making.

Trip to lesser know Champawat-Kumaoni Region

It's really amazing that India has so many beautiful scenic places and even if we travel each day of our lives, I feel there would still be some place left at the end. I never knew through out these years of my existence that there are these beautiful mountains few hours away from my place though I have heard of the places nearby. I am a mountain lover (though my stamina disagrees) and if there is one peaceful mountain I can cover then YES, I am all geared up.

Trip to lesser know peaceful Champawat-Kumaoni Region

Before starting with my experience of this place, I wish to tell you that so far I have travelled and relied mostly through/on public transport but if you are planning your visit to Champawat and further, public transport is not an option(or if it is. it's going to be really a hard one).

Road Trip From Sitapur to Tanakpur:

Trip to attend the reception was a sudden one and we were already so tired from the marriage but in the name of travel, I was all charged up. It hardly took 5-6 hours to reach the hotel venue in Tanakpur, there we got ready and headed straight to the wedding reception. Who knew the plans for next day would change for a trip to heaven?

Tanakpur to Champawat:

In past year or two, I have been to many mountains but let me assure you that the ones you see from Tanakpur are different ball game all together. As you go up the mountains it's a steep curvy ride to the first stop Champawat. This place is low on tourists and lowest on population, nothing like any other hill station. I would rather stay clear of the busy tourist places and spend most amount of time here, though the places to visit as a tourist spot are less but if you are one who enjoys nature more than anything then you are at the right place. Local cuisines are served at every corner and mela(fair) was the part of our one day stay here.

Champavat to Mayawati Ashram:

Another attraction of visiting Champawat is this ashram. This one is on the route to Lohaghat. Scenic beauty, serenity, calmness, cleanliness, garden and the view gives you positive vibes. If at all you plan to visit, go with free mind and enjoy some quality time away from the hustle and bustle of busy city. As I have mentioned earlier, public transport in this area are equal to none so make sure you are by your means.

Mayawati Ashram to  Abbott Mount:

We moved further ahead to Abbott Mount, our initial plan before night was to see sunrise from the mountains but as we slept really late I only got to see an awesome sunrise from my room window(Yes I managed to get up that early). We visited the well made and curated cottages in Abbott Mount. This place for some reason unknown to me is vacant and without a soul nearby, even the caretaker was missing when we went. Himalayan ranges are visible from here but the weather wasn't clear to see them through clearly. Cottages are awesome experience in themselves and the place surrounding is quiet.

Every minute I spent in Champawat has been one awesome memory, from morning walk to the mela, from road ahead to up the hill, from huge tree to tiny flower, I enjoyed every bit of this beauty. I really wish that roses are that red everywhere else too and vines are greener(Yes roses there were huge and popping red).

This journey was really short and the sweetest.

Plan a trip to lesser known areas, that ways you will enjoy the beauty of nature in its full glory and you might be the only one to do so at that moment. Share your best trip moments in the comments below, I would love to read your experiences. 😊
